"Personal weapons are what raised mankind out of the mud, and the rifle is the queen of personal weapons. The possession of a good rifle, as well as the skill to use it well, truly makes a man the monarch of all he surveys." - Jeff Cooper, The Art of the Rifle

.270 is my favorite caliber.
That new Barrett .416 is my new Lottery winning dream gun...
So yeah, I'm just sitting here rocking back and forth wanting all that money.
Q&A - You, me and Jack O'Connor.
I have some once-fired (in my rifle) R-P cases that I need to neck size and check case length, then plan to try a recipe of 58-58.5 H4831SC behind some Nosler 140BTs (or their Hornady counterparts - I think I have both on the reloading bench).
Trouble is, I don't have anything, in the near term, to hunt with that load. Last 3-4 times I have hunted Texas deer, have used a Rem 600 6mm for the little critters. Love it when guys in deer camp pop off and say something like "Watcha gonna do with that pea-shooter (or poodle-shooter)?"
I don't answer the question until the next day when someone asks how many shots to bag the deer. "Just one, of course."
The rifle has been 3/3 for one shot kills - 2 whitetails and one Sika.
Chup - Aw, how 'bout a fine bespoke English double or a nice heavy barrelled '98 large ring in .375 H&H?
Or .460 Nitro Express?
Thanks, buddy. I couldn't pull Jack O'Connor's name from my memory bank. I loved reading his stuff. He preached shot placement over all else and the .270 with a 130 grain bullet sighted in at about 125 yards, was good for a deer sized animal out to 250 yards without having to worry about anything but holding dead on.
