Did you know that you can measure your car's gas usage in acres?

Me [in Johnny Carson voice]: "I did not know that!"

About 10 years ago, a guy in a lunch group I was in got us into a strange discussion, the fallout of which caused me to research and present an estimation of the evaporation rate, in acre-feet, on Eagle Mountain Lake.

Actually, yes, before you call me out on it, I failed to note that evap rate would be acre-feet per hour or day or week (or some timeframe).

Fuel efficiency is usually measured in miles/gallon, which has dimensionality of length over length cubed, or inverse length squared. Fuel usage is the inverse of fuel efficiency, so it is an area. Think of it as the cross-sectional area of a pipe such that you could drive along the pipe and use up the fuel as you went. Acres is a unit of area, so you could express it in acres. My car's fuel use is something like 2*10^-11 acres.
